e cig 7One of the latest innovations to enter the smoking-cessation market is the electronic cigarette. The brainchild of a Chinese inventor, the "e-cig" is fast becoming a popular form of nicotine-replacement therapy in the United States and Europe. It is ironic that these devices were invented in China, and one of the biggest electronic cigarette manufacturers (Ruyan) is a Chinese company; the fact of the matter is that e-cigs are actually illegal in China.

Modern Marvels

As electromechanical devices, they represent miniaturization at its finest. No bigger than a real cigarette, e-cigs are in essence the same thing as vaporizers that are used by marijuana smokers instead of bongs or pipes. A nicotine solution, usually absorbed by a sponge, sits inside the device, and a heat element passes air across the liquid, turning into vapor. There is even an LED light to simulate the ember on the end of a cigarette.

Simulated Cigarettes

The reason they are preferred over nicotine gum or patches is that they satisfy the "hand-to-mouth" craving, and deliver a lungful of flavored vapor instead of carcinogenic smoke. More than a few health professionals have touted the positive effects of "smoking" without true combustion taking place, and by all accounts, the liquid nicotine solutions are far below the levels found in gum, patches or cigarettes.

In countries that have yet to allow the public unfettered access to electronic cigarettes, there is the lingering fear that e-cigs will send the message that smoking is a harmless endeavor. Many countries refuse to allow the companies that market e-cigs to sell them as smoking-cessation tools. Even the U.S. Food and Drug Administration believes e-cigs to be "drug-delivery devices", as opposed to being regulated as tobacco products. As of yet, the market for e-cigs remains in need of some clarity.

sponsor 9Not all sponsorship involves big business, giant corporations, sporting events or big money. Some sponsorship does not, in fact, involve only the human element. There are organizations out there that need your assistance, but they don’t need you to buy anything from them.

Shelter In A Storm

Animal shelters are some of the most important and yet most ignored organizations that are looking for sponsorship from people today. Of course, they would love you to adopt a pet (or even foster one); but not everyone is in a position to help in that manner. Sponsoring your local animal shelter can be as simple as donating old collars or leashes, cat litter for food, or when all else fails; you can write a check. Sponsoring these shelters will not only help them to reduce their costs but can help reduce the cost of adoption by the adopter. Charity donations (SPONSORSHIP) are tax deductible, even when they involve charities’ of nonhuman origin.

Today’s Children are Tomorrow’s Sponsors

Children have some of the biggest hearts of all people. Teaching a child responsibility by having a pet is great, but what if that child can’t have a pet. They can still appreciate the act of helping others by sponsoring a pet. I found, online, ‘Animal Fairy Charities’; this organization has published a children’s book which explains the legend of ‘The Animal Fairy’ on a child’s level and helps them understand the importance of sponsoring a charity that cares for animals. There is a Pet Expo coming up in my area where sponsorship will abound. I commit myself to that cause every time it comes to town because the sponsorship of animals is near and dear to my heart.

Whether you sponsor a charity event or the charity itself, sponsorship of organizations that help those who cannot help themselves is a noble and worthy endeavor. And it doesn’t have to break the bank.

Shooting games
Posted by Marty in Columbus News on 01 22nd, 2011| | No Comments »

games 3Now you’re talking! I have loved shooting games since I was old enough to hold the gun up to my eye. “Old dead eye” they used to call me. Okay, no not really, but I do enjoy a good shooting game. Fortunately, there are plenty to be found on line; and the best part… they’re free.

New games

Playing a shooting game used to mean that you had little pistol and you shot at targets; if you were lucky you had a little rifle and you shot at ducks. No more. The line “choose your weapon” never had more meaning than in today’s on line games. This is a whole new era. Machine guns, Uzi’s, grenade launchers, high powered rifles complete with laser scopes, canons, tanks and if you’re so old school that you just can’t let go of the past, you can still use a little hand gun. Some of these games tend to be a little violent; you are, after all, shooting a weapon. Most of the time you’re shooting at bad guys, but there are few games out there that push the envelope; so be forewarned.

Free shooting games

Free shooting games are as close as your laptop; and they can involve just about any targets and weapons imaginable. Moving targets, still targets, zombies, and cowboys in black hats; all sorts of menacing creatures for you to pick off one by one, or massacre with a machine gun or one of those big repeater rifles you see in war movies. I clicked on a few sites and let me tell you, they’re not kidding. Between free slot machines and free shooting games, I could develope a far more serious addiction than any junky on the street (unless he’s got a laptop).

Fun is fun, but shooting at things with guns is no laughing matter or childish game. If your child plays these games be sure they’re appropriate; and if you play these games… Ready, aim… FIRE!!!

Super Bowl Dynasties
Posted by Marty in Columbus News on 01 21st, 2011| | No Comments »

superbowl 4Every sport has its dynastic franchises, teams which always seem to rise to the top, even after a few rough patches here and there. These teams have certain things in common: Top-shelf quarterbacks, coaches that get the most out of their players, and owners that are committed to winning no matter the cost. These are the teams which burn up the Internet when it comes to sports betting online, on the Super Bowl, year after year.

In The Beginning...

At the advent of the Super Bowl, the Green Bay Packers were such a dynasty. Coach Vince Lombardi and quarterback Bart Starr led the team to several NFL championships even before winning the first two Super Bowls. A decade later, the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers were handing the Lombardi Trophy back and forth (with Pittsburgh beating Dallas in two Super Bowls). In the 1980s and early '90s, Joe Montana guided the San Francisco 49ers to four Super Bowl victories.

Returning To Power

Dallas rose again to prominence in the mid-'90s, winning the Super Bowl in three out of four seasons. They were again tested by a 49ers squad that won a Super Bowl in that same stretch, with Steve Young taking over for Joe Montana as the franchise quarterback. While never considered a true dynasty, the Washington Redskins also played in four Super Bowls in between 1982 and 1992, winning three of them, with different quarterbacks on all three squads.

The most recent teams to fall into the category of dynasty have been the New England Patriots, coached by Bill Belichick, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have won two of the last six Super Bowls and are the odds-on favorite to win it all again this year. Super Bowl betting always adds some extra zest and interest to the Big Game, and this year should be no different.

Yoga Takes Its Place On Stage
Posted by Marty in Columbus News on 01 20th, 2011| | No Comments »

gym 13The Denver area is chock full of exciting and interesting activities, some of which require quite a bit of physicality. This explains why Denver is attractive to so many physically fit people, and has such an abundance of personal trainers. Sometimes, though, people are just looking for alternatives. Cavernous gymnasiums with mirrored walls and rows of clanking machines simply lack appeal for a certain segment of the population. They may seek a more serene approach and atmosphere as they strive to attain peak health.

Pro Athletes And Yoga

This is part of the reason we have seen such a rise in the popularity of yoga, not just in Colorado but across the United States. Although yoga as a discipline is rooted more in meditation than in exercise, the postures and stretches can help any athlete prevent muscle and joint injuries through greater flexibility. This is the appeal yoga has for athletes in all professional sports.

Stretching For Success

The Denver Broncos were one of the NFL teams that used to utilize a yoga instructor in helping its players prepare their bodies for one of the most violent sports known to man. In 2009 they hired a 30-something coach named Josh McDaniels, who took a decidedly old-school tack to his training procedures, firing yoga instructor Danny Poole. Other franchises keep a teamwide commitment to yoga, like the Philadelphia Eagles, who have had a yoga instructor on their staff for the past four years.

However the aforementioned deposed football coach feels about it, some of the most recognized names in pro sports subscribe to the yoga theory, LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal among them. All-time leading scorer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has also been a longtime devotee of yoga. It's how they stay on top of their craft in an incredibly competitive field.
